Welcome to the Associated Clan MacLeod Societies (ACMS) Genealogical Resource Centre. Our purpose here is to provide the resources, information, and links you need to research your ties to this ancient Scottish highland clan. Hopefully, what we have provided is able to assist you in your research.

Before you begin using the resources in this section of the www.clanmacleod.org website, it is important for you to understand the terms of use under which our information is made available. By using our information, it is implied that you have agreed to these terms of use. The terms of use apply to any information available in both the MacLeod Genealogy Database, accessible from this page, and to research articles listed as published by ACMS in the Publications and Research section of our site. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

The MacLeod Genealogy Database has been available online for around 20 years but has now been integrated into the Clan MacLeod website using contemporary genealogical software to ensure it remains available to Clan MacLeod society members and other researchers. It is important to understand that this is an archive database created in the years up to 2004 and has not been added to since then. However, alongside links to previous generations of MacLeod families from around the world,  it does contain an immense piece of transcription and research which sets out the genealogy in the five sections of The MacLeods – The Genealogy of a Clan series. Please click on the Database Origins tab to read about how it was brought together.

It is important to note that there are around 40,000 names searchable within our database.  In order to make it a little easier for you to research, we have added a Help & Tips Guide to describe what you’ll find within each person’s record and some links below this section which will allow you to narrow your search.  We’ve also added further notes on Genealogical documentation standards used and Genealogical formats which describe the standards used in putting the database together. On each section of the site we have outlined the differences between the types of records that make up the database and how best to find what you are looking for.

In addition to providing you with the best MacLeod genealogy information we have available, we would also like to invite you to participate in the development of the Clan MacLeod Genealogical Resource Centre as a world-wide resource. If you have completed your own research or have other information of value to the Clan to share, we invite you to contribute links to publications of interest. You may also be interested to join our Clan MacLeod Surname DNA Project which is in need of many more members. ACMS is the global coordinating body for Clan MacLeod societies all over the world and we would be happy to put you in touch with clan members of local, regional and national societies working on genealogy in your area where we know of them.
