William, born about 1752, ...was known locally as Uilleam Mor mac''ic
Tharmaid -- a patronymic which proved that he belonged to the MacLeods
of Gesto. He is said to have joined the Regiment raised by Lord
MacDonald in 1778 for the American War and on his return to have
settled on the MacDonald Estate at Aird in Sleat. His name appears
regularly on the Sleat rent roll until 1825, when he probably died. He
was married, with issue.
