XIV. William Macleod of that ilk, &c. who was served heir to Tormod
his father, 31st July 1585; and, in November thereafter, upon a receipt
from the chancery, was infeft in the whole estate of the family.
He raised his clan and followers, and went to the assistance of
Lauchlan Maclean of Dowart (upon an invasion made on him by the
MacDonalds of Ilay), in virtue of a commission from the king, dated 8th
September 1585.
He married Janet, daughter of Lauchlan Macintosh of Macintosh; but
dying without issue in October 1590, was succeeded by his brother, Sir
Roderick Macleod.

Canon Roderick MacLeod writes that ''little is known of William''s life
and doings''. [THE MACLEODS OF DUNVEGAN, p. 118.] He married Janet,
daughter of Lauchlan Mor MacKintosh of MacKintosh, 16th Chief,
[MacKintosh: THE MACKINTOSHES AND CLAN CHATTAN (1903), p. 192.] and
died in 1590, having had issue, a son, John, who was a minor, when his
father died.
