Torquil MacLeod, reputed one of the best swordsmen in the Hebrides in
his day, received his education in France. He was a confirmed Jacobite,
though he did not take part in the Jacobite Rising in 1745. He spoke
sufficiently strongly in his cups about his loyalty to the Stuarts. In
consequence he was arrested by "Black Jock" Ferguson of the Furnace and
probably transported.
