Penelope, daughter of Norman MacLeod, IV of Drynoch ("History of the

Olaus was Angus macLeod''s youngest son, and was about twenty-one
years of age when his father met his death. While wandering as a
fugitive on the mainland after his escape from Skye, the Prince, it is
said, called at Swordlan on 7th July 1746, where he and his companions
received provisions and retired to a cave in a neighbouring hill (Sgurr
mhic Bharraich) from which they could see the whole of the surrounding
country. Young Olaus MacLeod accompanied them. Having partaken of
Mrs. MacLeod''s food and drink, the company lay down to sleep. The
Prince, on awakening, was mortified to see a number of soldiers
dragging Mrs. MacLeod out of her home, setting it on fire, burning all her
effects and carrying off all her cattle [MACLEODS IN CANADA, (THE CLAN
MACLEOD MAGAZINE, 1937, pp. 81-2)]. After the soldiers left, Olaus
returned home, and in the MacLeod Rentals for Glenelg he is given as
tacksman of Swordlan. He married Penelope, daughter of Norman
MacLeod [MacKenzie: HISTORY OF THE MACLEODS, p. 218], 4th of Drynoch,
with issue.
Olaus MacLeod died in 1796, and his widow, Penelope MacLeod,
succeeded him in the tack of Swordlan. He was succeeded in the
representation of the family by his son.
