Norman (Tarmod Mac Neill), [is] in several documents relating to
Kirtown in Pabbay form 1679-85.
Norman''s name appears regularly as ''Tormod mc Neill" in the Harris
Rent Rolls from 1679 to 1685. Along with several lesser tenants, he
occupies land in Baile na Cille (Kirktown) in the island of Pabbay in the
Sound of Harris. Rev. Kenneth MacAulay in his letter to Sir George
Strickland in 1775, states that the MacLeods of St. Kilda had held that
island for a century. There is reason, therefore, to believe that Norman
MacLeod 2nd of Pabbay was the first to occupy St. Kilda by written lease.
He was married, with issue.
