Was a shipbuilder. He and other members of a Liverpool privateer were
pressed into the crew of a British man o'' war. He escaped and reached
the West Indies, where he was rescued by another Liverpool privateer,
commanded by Captain Joseph Barss, Sen. He then became a lighthouse
keeper and evolved the first revolving light in Nova Scotia. He married
Mary Murray, who was descended from Richard Warren, one of the Pilgrim
Fathers in 1620. They had issue.
