She studied English at Dalhousie University when he was taking an L.LB.
at the Law School there. He practised Law in Amherst, Nova Scotia and
was twice elected Mayor of that town. Before her marriage, Grace Dean
wrote numerous short stories. In 1891 her STORIES OF THE LAND OF
EVANGELINE was published. A second edition with some new stories was
published in 1923 and in 1929, her only novel JOAN AT HALFWAY
appeared. She wrote stories until she was well in her 80''s. Acadia
University, of which she was for some time a member of the Board of
Governors, conferred upon her the honorary Degree of M.A. and years later
a D.Litt. She was the first woman in Canada to run for a seat in a
legislature. She died at the advanced age of 95 1/2 years. She and Henry
Wyckoff Rogers had issue.
