Donald James Sim, born on 22nd February 1845 at Moulmein, was
commissioned as a Cornet in the 3rd Madras Light Cavalry on 20th July
1861. In 1865 he became A.D.C. to his father who was then in command
of the Ceded district in Burma. In 1870 he was Deputy Assistant Quarter
Master General in the Nagpore Force and in 1878 Assistant quarter
Master General in Mysore. he took part in the Burma Expedition 1885-87,
where he was awarded the D.S.O. As Lieutenant-Colonel, 20th July 1887,
he was Deputy Quarter Master General of the Madras Light Cavalry and as
Brigadier-General, 4th July 1895, he commanded Brigades in Burma and
India and officiated in command in the Punjab Frontier and in the Meerut
distrit. He became C.B. on 20th May 1898. He was promoted
Major-General on 21st March 1899 and was appointed to command the
Army in Burma in 1903 with the rank of Lieutenant-General. He later
became a full General. He retired in 1906, was knnighted (K.C.I.E.) the
same year and was made a K.C.B. in 1913. He died on 16th January 1922.
he married on 3rd November 1877 at St. George''s Cathedral, Madras,
Maria Camilla (1855-1922), daughter of Colonel James Nicholas of the
Madras Staff Corps, with issue.
