Known as Domhnall Breac (Speckled Donald), …was Tutor to his
nephew, Norman, grandson of Iain a''Chuil Bhain, Iain Dubh having been
passed over because of his evil character. Donald Breac married Margaret,
daughter of Lauchlan MacKinnon, Chief of the MacKinnons, with issue,
several sons and daughters, who were all put to death by order by order of
Norman MacLeod, 12th Chief, who, it is said, [BANNATYNE MANUSCRIPT]
was determined to wipe out every member of the
Waternish family, not only because of the crimes and murders committed
by Iain Dubh, but also that there might not be any left alive of Sliochd
Iain Mhic Leoid to make a claim to the Chiefship of MacLeod. Donald
Breac himself was assassinated by Iain Dubh in Dunvegan Castle along
with his three nephews.
