Donald Alexander MacLeod of Glendale, younger, B.A. (Cantab)... was born
on 23rd January 1938 and was educated at the Edinburgh Academy and
Pembroke College, Cambridge. After leaving school he was
commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 1st Bn. Queen''s Own Cameron
Highlanders, in February 1957 and served in Aden on the Yemen Border.
Returning to the United Kingdom in April 1958, he transferred to the 4/5
Battalion and was promoted Lieutenant.
In 1958 he entered Pembroke College, Cambridge, and graduated B.A.
with Honours, in 1961. He entered the Senior Branch of the Foreign
Service in 1961 and after a year at the School of Oriental Studies,
London, he was posted to Burma as Third Secretary to H.M.Embassy
Rangoon. After two years in that Appointment he was promoted Second
Secretary and served in that capacity for a further two years.
Upon his return to London in 1966 Donald was appointed Private
Secretary to the Ministry of State for Commonwealth Affairs. He served
two Ministers in that capacity, covering a period of three years. In
September 1968 he was selected to join a nine months course on
Economics organised by H.M. Treasury. He successfully completed this
Course and was then appointed First Secretary (Political) at the British
High Commission, Ottawa, Canada.
Donald Alexander married Miss Rosemary Randle, of Staffordshire, at
St. John''s Church, Edinburgh, on 10th December 1963, with issue.
