Was born on 12th February 1906, in Bedford, England. He was at school
in Bruges, when the First World War broke out, and had to return to
Bedford, where he studied at the Grammar School. He joined the Indian
Army in 1926, and rose to the rank of Lieut.-Colonel. He retired in 1947,
and is married, without issue.
