!SOURCE: Rev. Dr. Donald MacKinnon and Alick Morrison, THE
MACLEODS--THE GENEALOGY OF A CLAN, Section II, Edinburgh, The Clan
MacLeod Society, 1968, p. 65.
Married Dr. Hector MacLean, 3rd of the MacLeans of Grulin [THE CLAN
GILLEAN, pp. 445-6.] whose mother was Janet, daughter of John MacLeod,
2nd of Berneray, and thus Catherine was a cousin of her husband. They
had an only surviving daughter, Mary. Dr. Johnson and James Boswell
visited Dr. MacLean at his home at Erray, Mull, and the former describes
Mary as the most accomplished lady he met during his tour of the
Hebrides [Boswell: JOURNAL OF A TOUR TO THE HEBRIDES (Pottle''s and
Bennett''s edit.), p. 308.] Dr. MacLean died about 1784, and his daughter,
Mary, in 1826.
