Succeeded his brother as 4th of Belfinlay, and joined the army of Prince
Charles at the beginning of the 1745 Rising. He was a captain in the
Clanranald Regiment, and at Culloden was shot through both legs, which
rendered all chance of escape hopeless. He received in prison the most
cruel treatment, from the effects of which, added to his wounds and
exposure on the field of battle, he ultimately died. He was unmarried.
