Rev. Alexander, M.A., minister of Portree, Skye. He was born in 1770
and studied for the ministry at King''s College, Aberdeen, where he
graduated M.A. in 1788. He was appointed schoolmaster of Portree on
17th May 1791 and 8 years later he became minister in the same place,
and remained there until his death, which was caused by a fall from the
top of the stair in his manse, on 15th February 1811. According to the
old Fasti, Mr. Campbell''s erudition was varied and extensive, his
liberality and benevvolence were great, while his amiable qualities in
private and social life, as well as his strict and conscientious discharge
of his office and the circumstances of his death, caused a deep
lamentation among the ''parishoners''. He married Margaret, daughter of
Dr. William MacLeod, 8th of the MacLeods of Glendale, with issue.
