Athole had early Earls in the Reign of King Malcolm IV. Malcolm is then
Earl of Athole: He out of his Devotion to God, gave in pure Alms to the
Monks of Scoon the Church of Logen-mabed, with four Chappels thereunto
belonging (Register of Scoon, in the Custody of the Viscount of
Stormont.), for the Safety of his Soul, and to the Abbay of Dumfermling,
the Tithes of the Church of Mollin, Pro Salute animae suae & animae
sponsae suae & Regam Predecessorum suorum ibidem requiescentium,
which was ratified by King William (Register of Dumfermling.) He left

!LIFETIME: Malcolm IV, byname MALCOLM THE MAIDEN (b. 1141?--d. Dec.
9, 1165), king of Scotland (1153-65).
William I, byname WILLIAM THE LION (b. 1143--d. Dec. 4, 1214, Stirling,
Stirlingshire, Scot.), king of Scotland from 1165 to 1214; although he
submitted to English overlordship for 15 years (1174-89) of his reign,
he ultimately obtained independence for his kingdom.
