John... was a surgeon, and was in that capacity on an emigrant ship to
America about 1817. On the return voyage, the vessel was wrecked off
the coast of Prince Edward Island, without loss of life. In 1821, Dr. John
and others from Lochalsh and Kintail emigrated to Glengarry, Upper
Canada (now Ontario), where he was living in 1826 [MacRae: HISTORY OF
