Biography

He was disinherited by his father Roderick, m. Margaret, widow of
Cuthbert of Castlehill, co. Inverness, and dau. of Angus MacDonald, 7th
of Glengarry, and had issue, two sons, who d.v.p., and five daus.

Torquil Cononach claimed to be the son and heir of Roderick MacLEod X
of Lewis. He married Margaret, daughter of Angus MacDonald VII of the
MacDonalds of Glengarry (widow of Cuthbert of Castlehill, Inverness),
with issue.
Torquil Cononach last appeared on record in 1609 [W.C. MacKenzie
(1903/1974) HISTORY OF THE OUTER HEBRIDES, p. 258.], but it seems that
he did not die until shortyly after the invasion of Lewis by the

Torquil (Torcall Cononach), b. 1541. His paternity was, in 1566,
confessed by Hutcheon Morrison, brieve of Lewis. [The Book of Dunvegan
(I) pp. 33-4.] Torquil marriedin 1565 Margaret, daughter of Angus
Macdonald of Glengarry, widow of one of the Cutherberts of Inverness,
with issue.
