Norman, … was an older twin-brother of William, but this must be
wrong, for Norman was old enough in 1428 to lead the Clan in battle, and
so must have been considerably older than his brother, William, who was
born c. 1415. He was probably an illegitimate son of Iain Borb. He was
killed in 1429. His posthumous son, John, was progenitor of the
MacLeods of Waternish. Iain Borb left two daughters, who were born in
wedlock.
!BIOGRAPHY: Rev. Donald MacKinnon, THE MACLEODS OF ARNISDALE,
Migration Project Publications Series Number 1, Clan MacLeod Society,
USA, 1984, p. 7.
He commanded the Macleods at the battle fought in Lochaber in 1429,
between Alexander, Lord of the Isles, whom he supported, and James I.
Norman was killed. He was married to a daughter of Chisholm of
Strathglass, and by her had a son, John.
