Neil, …was one of the prisoners captured by the MacDonalds in the
skirmish at Binquillin (Ben Coolin) in 1601 [Gordon, GENEALOGICAL
HISTORY OF THE EARLDOM OF SUTHERLAND, p. 245.] We have no further
knowledge of him. He was probably badly wounded in the skirmish in the
Coolins, for we find in 1616 his younger brother, Alasdair Ban mac
Alasdair Ruaidh representing his family among "the chief and principal
persons of the clan" to be exhibited annually before the Scottish Privy
Council by Sir Rory Mor as a guarantee that he and all members of his
clan would obey the laws of the country.
