!MENTION: Rev. Dr. Donald MacKinnon and Alick Morrison, THE
MACLEODS--THE GENEALOGY OF A CLAN, Section II, Edinburgh, The Clan
MacLeod Society, 1968, p. 52.
Was a Lieutenant in the same Regiment, in which his father was a
Captain. Lieutenant Norman registered Arms in the Lyon Office,
Edinburgh in 1741. Mairi Nighean Alasdair Ruaidh is known to have
addressed a long poem to a certain person, who she described in Gaelic
as Tormod na tri Tormoid, i.e. Norman son of Norman son of Norman. It
has been held for some time that this poem was addressed to Norman
22nd Chief. This cannot be the case for he was Norman son of Norman
son of John. There is only one person to whom it could refer at the time
and that is Lieutenant Norman above. He was a member of the Berneray
family, and as the bardess was the nurse at one time to his father, it is
reasonable to suppose that she would take pleasure in addressing a song
to his son.
