Was born, on 26th August 1888, at Pilrig House, Edinburgh, and was
educated at Colet Court, Snettisham Grange, and Sandhurst. He was
commissioned in the Black Watch on 8th February 1908, and served in
India with the 2nd Battalion. He accompanied the Relief Column to
Chitral as Transport Officer in 1910. From 1913 to the outbreak of the
First World War he was at the Black Watch headquarters in Perth, and, on
promotion, was posted as Adjutant to the 9th Battalion, and went
overseas. He was wounded at Loos. AFter his recovery, he served at the
War Office, and in Edinburgh. From 1924 to 1928, he was Staff Captain
at Gibraltar. On 15th October 1936, he took over the command of the 2nd
Battalion of the Black Watch in Palestine, and two years later, after
thirty years'' service, he retired, with the rank of Lieut.-Colonel. In the
Second World War, on mobilization, he was appointed to command the
Infantry Reinforcement Depot, B.E.F., overseas, and in 1940 he took over
the command of the newly raised 14th Battalion of the South
Staffordshire Regiment. Next year he was appointed Defence Commander
of Lossiemouth Air Station. In 1944, he became Deputy Lieutenant of
Ross and Cromarty. While residing in Ross-shire, he was
Deputy-Commander of the Home Guard, and later County Cadet
Commandant. Lieut.-Colonel A. K. MacLeod married, on 16th December
1916, Euphemia, daughter of the Very Rev. P.R. Smythe, Provost of St.
Ninian''s Cathedral, Perth, without issue. He died on 19th June 1968.
