Educated at Edinburgh Academy and St. Andrews University (BA). Later, Director at Lloyds T.S.B.
On 18 April 1987, he married Yvonne Hay at St. Mary’s Church, Elmbridge, near Droitwich, Worcestershire.

Yvonne Ann Hay (daughter of Sidney Francis Hay and Hazel Sylvia Green), was born at Pembury Hospital, Kent, on 5th November 1950, and educated at Catshill Middle School, then Canterbury Technical College, and the Open University – graduated with BA (Hons).

They lived at Cove, Argyll and Bute, Scotland.
He died at Cove, Scotland, on 4 July 2010 after a year’s battle with cancer.  

Their marriage had the following issue:

1. Fiona Amee Macleod, born Chesterfield 30th November 1989, graduated in 2009 with an Upper Second BA (Hons) at the University of Central Lancashire.
2. Moira Gillian Macleod, born Stevenage 25th May 1990, attended Myerscough College, near Preston, where she studied a Foundation Degree in veterinary nursing and from where she graduated in 2010.
3. Callum Iain Macleod, born Bristol 2nd March 1994, is a student at Glasgow University.
