Biography
!SOURCE: Rev. Dr. Donald MacKinnon and Alick Morrison, THE MACLEODS:
THE GENEALOGY OF A CLAN, Section III, "Cadet Families", Edinburgh, The
Clan MacLeod Society, 1970, p. 252.
Donald was tacksman in Berneray in the time of Alasdair Crotach 8th
Chief of the Clan. This was a stormy period in the history of the island
of Berneray. Bannatyne hints as much, "Some truly melancholy and horrid
traditions are still extant regarding this race, whilst they lived in
Berneray, which I shall relate hereafter". Unfortunately he did not do so.
The traditions however still survive in the island of Berneray and some
of them were collected by Donald Morrison, ''An Sgolair Ban'', and
incorporated in the MORRISON MANUSCRIPTS in the Public Library in
Stornoway, Isle of Lewis. According to this tradition, Donald was
murdered by his younger brother Malcolm. He had issue, however, John
Mor, Donald, and Norman, and he was succeeded by his eldest son John
Mor.
