Donald was left in 1746 in charge of the Glenelg Militia. It is said that
the first intimation he had of the battle of Culloden having been fought
was the arrival of his brother, John, during the night, mounted on the
charger of an English Dragoon, which before morning was sent off in charge
of a faithful retainer and put into the morass of Glennan to avoid
detection. Donald married Catherine, daughter of the Rev. John Munro,
8th of the Munros of Erribol, Sutherland, minister of Eddrachilles, and
sister of the Rev. Hugh Munro, 9th of the Munros of Erribol, minister of Uig,
Lewis, with issue.
