Archibald... was born on 28th June 1793, and entered the army,
attaining the rank of Captain in the 118th Madras Native Infantry [See
THE MACLEODS OF ARNISDALE, pp. 24-25]. He died on 10th July 1827.
the circumstances of his death are recorded in the LIFE OF SIR THOMAS
MUNRO [Vol. 2, p. 205]. On the eve of his retirement, Sir Thomas Munro,
who was Governor of Madras, went to visit friends in the west of the
Madras Presidency, was attacked by cholera while there, and died within
three days. Captain Archibald MacLeod, who was in command of the
Governor''s escort, succumbed to the malady four days later, and died
almost immediately. He was buried beside Sir Thomas Munro. he died
unmarried.
