Was born in 1756, and entered the service of the East India Company in
1775. He was appointed Captain in 1786. Major in 1795, Lieut.-Colonel
in 1798, and Major-General in 1811. He was created a K.C.B. in 1815, and
was promoted to the rank of Lieut.-General in 1821. He died, in 1849, in
London.
