XXI. Sir Alexander Macdonald of Macdonald, baronet, succeeded his
brother, 1766, being then an offier in the Coldstream regiment of
foot-guards, in which he had an ensign''s commission in May 1761. He
was created a peer of Ireland, by the title of Baron Macdonald of Slate,
by patent, dated 17th July 1766, to him and the heirs male of his body;
and died 12th September 1795. His Lordship married, 3d May 1768,
Elisabeth Diana, eldest daughter of Godfrey Bosville, of Gunthwaite, in
the county of York, by his wife, Diana, eldest daughter of Sir William
Wentworth of Bretton, in the same county, baronet; and by her, who died
18th October 1789, had issue.
