Alexander succeeded his father in the tack of Borline. He married, on
6th October 1813, Elizabeth, daughter of Major Alexander MacDonald of
Courthill, Lochcarron, and afterwards of Monkstadt, Skye (son of the Rev.
Hugh MacDonald, minister of Portree), [The Rev. Hugh MacDonald was a
son of Hugh MacDonald, 1st of the MacDonalds of Glenmore, Portree, who
was second son of Sir James MacDonald, 2nd Baronet of Sleat (CLAN
DONALD, III, pp. 523-4).] without issue. Alexander was at Borline in
1825, but thereafter his name does not appear in the MacLeod Rentals. It
is possible he may have died about that date. His wife, after his death,
lived in Stornoway, Lewis, where her sister, Alice, was married to Dr.
Roderick Miller, and died there, in 1870, at an ''advanced age''. He was
succeeded in the representation of the family of Glendale by his brother.
