Was educated at Dartmouth (1936-40), and joined the Royal Navy as a
midshipman on H.M.S. HAWKINS in 1940. Later he was posted to H.M.S.
NORFOLK on convoy work to Russia. In 1944, he was transferred to the
Submarine Service, and in January of next year he was lost, when his
submarine was sunk by enemy action while minelaying off Penang.
