Was born on 9th April 1862, and on 22nd February 1882 was appointed
to a commission as Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. He was promoted
to Captain on 20th May 1890, Major on 7th December 1899,
Lieut.-Colonel on 12th January 1908, Colonel (Substantive) on 4th
October 1911, and Brigadier-General (temporary) on 5th August 1914, a
rank he held until 25th April 1916. He retured, on 11th May 1919, with
the honorary rank of Brigadier-General. He served in India, from 4th
August 1898 to 4th February 1900, as D.A.A.G. for the royal Artillery,
and to 22nd January 1916 as officer commanding the Royal Artillery,
Northern Command. He was often mentioned in Despatches, and was
awarded the 1914/1915 Star and British War and Victory Medals.
Brigadier-General MacLeod was married three times. His first wife was
Florence Camsaw, who died, in 1911, without issue. His second wife
was Florence Kennedy, who was killed, by enemy action, in 1916, leaving
no issue. His third wife was Mary F. Lumsden, by whom he had a
daughter, Jean Kelty, who married Denys Parsons (whose mother was
Viola Tree), with issue, a son. Brigadier-General William Kelty lived in
retirement at Greenbank, Perth. One day, when crossing the Tay Bridge,
he collapsed, and died a few days thereafter at Greenbank, aged sixty
years. He was succeeded in the representation of the MacLeods of
Luskintyre by his half-brother.
