Was brought up at Uiginish in Dunvegan. During the First World War he
served with the 23rd Royal Fusiliers Service Battalion. On his return to
civil live, he founded the well know firm of William MacLeod & Co. Ltd.,
which he carried on with great success. In February 1915, he married
Georgina Elizabeth Catherine, second daughter of Captain George
Dartmouth FitzRoy, R.N., without issue. With William C. MacLeod''s death
on 10th November 1940, the Orbost MacLeod family became extinct in
the male line.
