William… received the tack of Ose. He became a factor on the MacLeod
Estates and engaged in the business of droving. "Had William of Ose
contented himself with his income as factor and the profits of this valuable
possession (i.e., Ose) he could not have failed to leave his
family in an independent situation. In place of this, he unfortunately for
himself and his family, engaged for a number of years in the business of
a dealer in black cattle and that to an extent beyond most people in the
Highlands of Scotland." William married Christian (who died at Ose on
10th September 1814), daughter of Donald MacLeod, the Old Trojan of
Berneray, and Anne, only daughter of Roderick MacLeod 19th Chief of the
MacLeods of Harris and Dunvegan, with issue, a numerous progeny of 13
children.
