!MENTION: Rev. Dr. Donald MacKinnon and Alick Morrison, THE
MACLEODS--THE GENEALOGY OF A CLAN, Section II, Edinburgh, The Clan
MacLeod Society, 1968, p. 120. Donald, the Serjeant, to whose
remarkable MEMOIRS we are indebted for our information about John and
his descendants. Donald was a most remarkable man, but by the time he
dictated his MEMOIRS his memory was failing him,and much of what he
gave out as fact is fiction. This is especially true with regard to dates
and numbers. Donald says that he was married three times, and had a
very large family of sons and daughters (he had forgotten the exact
number). Twelve of his sons were in the King''s service, either as
soldiers or sailors. Several of his daughters were well married.
