Norman, born in 1886 and died in 1969,... graduated M.A. (Hons.) in
English and History at Edinburgh. He entered the Civil Service and served
for nearly 40 years in the Admiralty, form which he retired in 1949. He
rose to the rank of Principal Assistant Secretary and held in succession
the posts of Director of Greenwich Hospital and Director of Labour. He
had one son.
