MacLeod Society, 1968, pp. 121-122. Was commissioned as a Cornet in
the Madras Light Cavalry in 1861, took part in the Burma Expedition
1885-1887, where he was awarded the D.S.O. He commanded the 3rd
Madras Lancers and later Brigades in Burma and India. He also held
commands in the Punjaub Frontier and the Meerut Distruct. He
commanded the Army in Burma in 1902, with the rank of
Lieutenant-General. He retired in 1906, was knighted (K.C.I.E.) and was
made a K.C.B. in 1913. He married in 1877, Maria Camilla, daughter of
Col. James Nicholas, with issue.
