There certainly seems to have been doubt about Angus Mor''s succession.
There were those who claimed that his brother John was older than
Angus, and thus they may have been twins. Both brothers agreed to
submit their claim to their superior, the Chief of Siol Thorcuil in Lewis,
probably Roderick VIII, and to abide by his decision. The Chief decided in
favor of Angus Mor, who happened to be his son-in-law. The decision
was bitterly resented by John and his family with tragic consequences
at the Stoer.
Angus Mor was married twice: (1) to a daughter of MacLeod of Lewis,
probably Roderick VIII with issue, at least, three sons, who succeeded
their father in Assynt.
Angus Mor III married (2) a daughter of MacLeod of Gesto, probably
Murdo IV, (not Malcolm III of Harris, as stated by some Assynt
genealogies), with further issue.
