Alexander succeeded his father in the tack of Ferinlea. He signed the
Address of Loyalty to Norman 22nd Cheif on 8th January 1746 and also
the letter to the Auditors in 1775, where in company with others, he
agreed to a voluntary agreement to pay a 7 1/2 % increase in his rent on
16th September 1777. He married Margaret, daughter of Donald MacLeod
of Berneray and Anne, only daughter of Roderick MacLeod 19th Chief of
the Clan MacLeod of Harris and Dunvegan. Dr. Johnson and James Boswell
paid a visit to Ferinlea. Boswell wrote, "We found in Ferinlea a very
comfortable house. His wife is a daughter of Bernera . . . . Ferinlea
seemed to be a worthy sensible kind lman." It does not appear that
Alexander and his wife had issue. He died on the 17th March 1797, aged
87 years.
