Major Ranald Hume MacDonald was son of the Right Hon. Sir John Hay
Atholl MacDonald, an eminent Edinburgh Advocate and Judge, who became
Lord Justice Clerk, with the title of Lord Kingsburgh, by his wife,
Adelaide Jeannette, daughter of Major Doran of Ely House, Wexford. Lord
Kingsburgh was a grandson of Norman MacDonald of the MacDonalds of
Scalpay, Skye, descended from Sir James Mor MacDonald, 2nd Baronet of
Sleat (CLAN DONALD, III, pp. 528-30), of the Royal Engineers, and died on
27th September 1916.
