Assumed the additional name of Gordon on succeeding to the estate of
Rayne, Aberdeenshire, under the entail and settlement of his late cousin,
John Gordon of Avochie and Rayne, in 1857. He was born on 2nd June
1806, and married, on 20th April 1843, Charlotte, daughter of Colonel
William Balfour, 82nd Regiment, with issue. He died on 21st August
1873, and his widow survived him until 1890.
