Which Kenneth was one of the Lords of the Privy Council to King James
VII. by whom he was chosen one of the Knights Companions of the most
noble Order of the Thistle, Anno 1687, which that Prince was then
pleased to revive. Upon the Revolution, when his unfortunate Master was
forced to retire into France, and thence into Ireland, the Earl soon
followed him thither; at which Time King James did create him a
Marquis; but that Honour is not allowed here. He married the Lady
Frances Herbert, Daughter of William Marquis of Powis, of the Kingdom
of england, by whom he had Kenneth his Successor, and a Daughter Mary
married to . . . . . Caryll, Esq; and dying in January 1701, was succeeded
by Kenneth his Son.

XV. Kenneth, fourth Earl of seaforth, the eldest son, succeeded his
father 1678, was served heir male of Kenneth, Lord Mackenzie of Kintail,
his great grandfather, in lands in the lordship of Ardmannoch and
earldom of Ross, 1st March 1681; was nominated one of the knights of
the Thistle, on the revival of that order, 1687, and sworn a
privy-councillor to King James VII. He followed that monarch to France
at the revolution; attended him to Ireland; was by him created Marquis of
Seaforth, and died at Paris in January 1701. He married Lady Frances
Herbert, second daughter of William, Marquis of Powis (created Duke of
Powis by King James after his abdication), by Lady Elisabeth Somerset,
daughter of Edward, Marquis of Worcester, and by her, who died at Paris,
16th December 1732, had issue.
